sweet cabin makeover

This awesome little cabin makeover is totally inspiring. It doesn’t hurt that it’s on the beach in New Zealand either. Wouldn’t it be amazing to achieve a makeover this small, yet this effective? Have you ever done any makeovers to your own place? I’d love to hear what you did. Lately I’ve been dying to.

Feeling inspired yet? More pictures and the full story of what they did, can be found here on the owner’s blog.

P.S. Moseyman was totally disappointed that the owners painted over that gorgeous dark wood floor – thinks they should have restored it. Do you agree?

house obsession

Hello there! Today I’m unusually obsessed with a particular house that SF Girl By Bay posted about. I seriously just emailed the owner and asked him to contact me if he ever thinks of selling it. Which is funny on a few levels.. I mean, a) It’s definitely way beyond our price range and b) We live in NYC, not San Francisco.

Anyway. Here’s the photo that stole my heart. That deck, that view, that… feeling! Do you see it too? The pull of home? Or is it just me and my crazy hormones?

window seat excitement

We’re planning on getting a window seat built for our tiny living room in the next few months with some much needed drawer storage. I’ve been noticing every home decor photo that has one now and this shot really captured my interest. I love the way it’s styled too, with the blue lamp, different cushion and rug textiles and a cute little table set. Do you have a (built-in/makeshift) window seat in your home?

happy thanksgiving weekend!

What are you guys doing for Thanksgiving this year? Moseyman and I are actually eating at an awesome NY diner called Veselka with some friends. I’ve never eaten Thanksgiving dinner in a restaurant before, have you? I think we’ll finish at our place with some yummy cups of hot chocolate and veg out. Here are some of my favorite pins this week. You can find more here.

Love this man with dog. Isn’t it sweet?

Thinking of decorating with these tiny starry string lights

We just ordered this overdyed pink rug. I’m so excited!

I love this skirt and cozy sweater look with the brogues.

Love Emily Henderson’s solution for making this living room kid friendly yet still stylish

Hope you all have some yummy food and a lovely weekend!

some distraction

Hope you’re having a relaxing weekend. I’m sitting on my couch staring out at the grey overcast skies and thinking about all the things that are coming up at the end of this year. I decided to post some comforting pins as a little distraction. Here are more if you’re interested.

view of the world from bedford avenue

If you live in Brooklyn, NY like we do, then you might especially like this print.

Starting tomorrow (July 18th) at 10am, my graphic artist friend, Koren Shadmi will be selling his recent creation – a limited edition print titled “View of the World from Bedford Avenue

an homage  to the classic New Yorker cover from 1976 by the great Saul Steinberg. The original cover was a visual observation of how New Yorkers see the rest of the world; miniaturized by the grandeur and solipsism of Manhattan, the unofficial center of the world. Some (including me) would argue that the new center of the world is now Brooklyn.

Isn’t it awesome? You can buy it here (starting Wednesday).

this week’s favorite living room pins

While waiting for the novelty of Pinterest to wear off, here are a few of my favorite living room pins this week.

1. I have an ongoing obsession with Emily Henderson and her inspiring thrifty styling.

2. I’m into the floating storage and casually framed wall peeking out behind the sitting area of this living room.

3. Feeling the warmth of the light shining through the pretty linen curtain panel. It creates the coze in that reading nook.

4. So small, so white and so cute. This living room tells me weird shaped spaces can work out really well.

DIY coat rack

It has been a busy weekend so far. Yesterday Moseyman and I trekked out to the lumber store and picked up some wood so I could start working on some projects for our entryway. As Apartment Diet would say… “start with a corner.” So I picked the corner where our coat hook and bench would go.

Today I worked on our DIY coat rack. I bought some wood that would make a pretty backboard, then asked the nice hardware store worker to cut my wooden dowel into 5 3″ pieces to make ‘hooks’ or ‘pegs’ as I call them.

Once I sanded, glued and screwed everything together, I painted the tips of the pegs with orange-red acrylic paint and voila!

It’s a start right? Next project coming up… the DIY bench!

and the decorating begins…

Happy weekend everyone! What are your plans? Moseyman and I are going to try to make some headway on making our new apartment feel more like a home. Tonight we hung the loooong white linen curtains in our new living room and bedroom. They still need curtain rings so they slide more easily but it’s great to have something up finally! I can’t wait to keep going with the rest of the house!
