view of the world from bedford avenue

If you live in Brooklyn, NY like we do, then you might especially like this print.

Starting tomorrow (July 18th) at 10am, my graphic artist friend, Koren Shadmi will be selling his recent creation – a limited edition print titled “View of the World from Bedford Avenue

an homage  to the classic New Yorker cover from 1976 by the great Saul Steinberg. The original cover was a visual observation of how New Yorkers see the rest of the world; miniaturized by the grandeur and solipsism of Manhattan, the unofficial center of the world. Some (including me) would argue that the new center of the world is now Brooklyn.

Isn’t it awesome? You can buy it here (starting Wednesday).

brooklyn moments

Yesterday the dog and I had a lovely walk through the neighborhood. At noon we stopped for bagels and cream cheese, came back to eat two of them for lunch, then we headed over to the waterfront pier before sunset to do things like gaze at the Manhattan skyline and listen to the saxophone player in the distance. I love the waterfront area… it seems to be the only place that feels truly peaceful around these parts.

In other news, Moseyman and I bought our very first TV! What a luxury. We’ve always watched TV and movies on our laptops so this is a real treat. It even makes a fancy sound when you turn it on and off. And since Moseyman is away at the moment I’m enjoying some ‘me’ time curling up on the couch and watching chick flicks (like Working Girl) on the BIG screen. Hope you’re having a great weekend!

pink sunday

Happy Easter to those who celebrate it! After the feel of spring in the air and sun on my cheeks, I’m really thinking pink today. Got any specific color palettes you’re thinking of rocking this spring/summer?

Moseyman and I had a full day prancing about outside…

First we ate a yummy french toast and eggs florentine brunch here. Then we set out for the city.

It was surprisingly warm out today so I bought these sandals. (They’re much prettier in person.)

Then we walked home over this bridge.

Now we’re relaxing back at home… and I just found this funny necklace and this long, pretty dress.

brooklyn art library

Have any of you local Brooklynites been to the Brooklyn Art Library? Such a super cute place and concept! It’s situated on the beautiful N. 3rd between Berry and Wythe. There are shelves of locally made booklets filled with art sketches, doodles, personal writings, fiction and more. You can lounge around their grand reading table or actually check the booklets out (like a real library). Look at the warm and perfectly styled atmosphere they created!

madewell at bird party

Tonight Moseyman and I trekked out into the nasty winds and rain to see what was going on at the madewell-bird party (a celebration of Madewell‘s big debut at bird).

Unfortunatley, the rack of stripes (and I’m a stripes and Madewell lover) felt a little underwhelming… perhaps overshadowed by the s’mores on a stick, free beer and sweet tunes?

I think the parting gifts near the door were the highlight… an event branded pouch, a 15% off coupon and a couple of mini cheddar corn muffins.

a peek at my week + diy faves

Moseyman and I are setting off on a trip to the Moma soon, but I thought I give a quick post and share a few pictures from my week.

Our week started with a very wintry, rainy day:

So Moseyman made humus from scratch and prepared warm plates of masabacha (humus with chick peas, tahina & parsley)

The dog didn’t want to go outside in the rain:

But by Wednesday, the sun was out and the Union Square Farmers Market made me happy during lunch break:

And, FLOWERS are making a come back! YAY!

Hope you enjoyed my NYC view. I’ll leave you with a few of my favorite DIY links from around the web:

Love the barn door trend? See how to make your own.

Create your own bedside table from a chair.

Always good to know how to make these things.

packaging on $0

In my last post I mentioned putting together a NYC back to school package for my 7 year old niece who lives in Florida and I really wanted to make the packaging special in some way. I didn’t have much to work with in my craft box and I didn’t have much time to fiddle around, so I decided to create special little tags for some of the items I got for her. Ex: Magic Fairy Power Bracelet, and Princess Avery Hair Clips. Here are a few pics of the outcome:

meet your new free office space

A FREE, large workspace, called the Wix Lounge, just opened in Manhattan, near Union Square. It’s there for artists, web/graphic designers, photographers, business connoisseurs, creative minds, etc. who want to get out of their stuffy apartment and into a beautiful loft environment, where they can work (free wi-fi), hold meetings or just hang out, without having to buy a coffee. In fact the Wix Lounge offers free cappuccinos, plenty of comfy couches, work tables, photo studio space, weekly industry lectures, art school movie night classics (Helvetica was screened last week), networking soirees and more! Unlike other work spaces, such as 3rd Ward, everything at the Wix Lounge is completely free. LOVE.

Their next open mixer is actually tomorrow (THURS Aug. 19) 7-10 PM. More info here
