new shoes make me happy

I was excited to get my new black, flat, Vida cutout oxfords in the mail the other day. I love the way they look. They can toughen up the frilliest of dresses and provide some breeze to the feet while maintaining the sophistication of wearing a real shoe as opposed to a flippy floppy. The downer side is that I wore them out the day that I got them and almost immediately noticed severe wear on each of the heels. So in that sense, the price should have been a little gentler! The excitement of having them overrides it all though. Look, my dog, bonnie even seems to like them.

I’m a winner :)

When I was little I used to think I was lucky at winning things. It was true, really. I strangely went through this phase where I would sign up for silly little contests and most of the time I would win. I won a mans silver watch, an Eckards (drug store) kids coloring contest and other local raffles. But the older I grew, the less I won things and the more cynical I became, until I just stopped trying… until a week ago.

I just received an email from the awesome blogger, Sofia Barao of lafee coriandre, announcing that I won the needlebook in the Fieldguided giveaway. It’s a sweet looking handmade needle wallet and I’m quite excited to receive it in the mail! Thank you to Sofia and of course to Fieldguided for providing fun winning opportunities and restoring the faith in all of us that winning is still possible. Or at least for me it is! HA! Here’s what I won:

summer dresses for broke(ish) lasses

Feeling a bit broke these days and knowing there are others out there who must be feeling it too, I decided to post a bundleful of dresses for under $100. Under $50 would’ve been better, I know, but a few were just too cute to not get slipped in 🙂

POT OF GOLD – tights of gold

It’s our weekly “pot of gold” day today, and this time I took the name quite literally… black, handmade tights covered in gold C3P0 like nuggets. I would sport these things around town (in cool weather) with a pair of perfect, black, shortish shorts and floaty top:

grey matter

Another way of easy dressing without looking lazy, is utilizing the color grey! Grey is so underrated. A few key, grey pieces and you’re pretty much set because almost every color goes well with grey (except brown, in my book)… and of course, black is like grey’s older sister. Here are some of my favorites.

sponsor: polls boutique

I’d like to introduce you to our very first sponsor, Polls Boutique. PollsB is a fantastic new social network that revolves around polls. You can easily post your own polls with pictures, videos, links, etc, and then find out who voted what. You can also vote on as many polls as you like and find out which other pollsb users vote like you. There are tons of fashion polls, so many, that they created a special section called “Rate My Shoes.” This is a quickie page where you can swiftly upload your shoe image/s and get immediate feedback! Here’s a little poll I created today about cutout oxfords:

heart shatteringly good

Karen Walker’s S/S 09, “She’s Cracked” collection is absolutely fabulous! I especially love the shattered-like pieces of fabric on top of a clean and structured back drop. I mean,  I’m positively drooling as I type. Take note everyone, Maximillia is accepting pre-orders for parts of this collection now, which will be arriving in their shop next month.

black and white forever

Black and white combos can never get boring for me. I think it’s also a look that can survive and even thrive all year long, throughout every season. A B&W piece can work in a classy going-to-a-ballet situation and also a Saturday morning brunch with friends. There’s barely any work involved when it comes to matching it all up, and being lazy at accessorizing, this is something I can appreciate. So, on this thought today, I picked out some of my favorite, current black and white trends.
